The Manchester Poetry Prize 2008

First prize: £10,000

The first Manchester Poetry Prize was launched in March 2008 and, by the closing date of 1st August, had attracted more than 1,000 entries (almost 4,700 poems) from over 30 countries.

The judges – distinguished poets Gillian Clarke, Imtiaz Dharker and Carol Ann Duffy – were delighted with the range and quality of writing submitted and worked hard to select a shortlist of just six finalists, from which the winners were chosen.
